VCU Lacrosse came online Sunday. Three years after VCU Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin announced the school would add the rapidly growing sport, the Rams took the field for the first time.

It was a splendid debut. Molly Barcikowski scored five goals, including the first one in school history, as the Rams topped Gardner-Webb 21-9 at Cary Street Field. Cue the highlights!

Meet Jen Kasper O’Brien, who has signed on to become the first women’s lacrosse coach in VCU history. A UMBC alum and former Johns Hopkins assistant, Kasper O’Brien will bring the program on board slowly. She’ll coach the VCU club team (which already exists) for the next two seasons before the Rams begin Division I play in 2015-16.
