What does a VCU Men’s Basketball gameday sound like? It’s the explosive roar of the crowd, the unrelenting sonic crush of The Peppas and the gold-laced vocals of Hunter Elliott.
By day, Elliott, a Richmond native, works in sales, but on game nights, he’s stirring 7,700 fans into a frenzy during starting lineups, and there are few guys behind the microphone who can turn the vigorous distribution of free, sponsored t-shirts a catch phrase.
His association with VCU dates back more than 30 years, when he started calling women’s basketball and volleyball games for the Rams at Franklin Street Gym. Since 1986, first at the Coliseum, now at the Stuart C. Siegel Center, Elliott’s unforgettable voice have colored the VCU Basketball experience.
We sat down with him recently to relive a generation behind the microphone.
