WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (4-19, 2-9 CAA)

The skinny: On one hand, you’ve got two teams moving in opposite directions. VCU has won seven straight games and 15 of 17. Then, there’s William & Mary, which…well, the Tribe are 4-19.

But just two weeks ago, this same beleaguered William & Mary team put a scare into the Rams, forcing overtime at the Verizon Wireless Arena before VCU prevailed on a Darius Theus layup with less than 10 seconds remaining, 69-68. That night, the Tribe held the Rams to 34 percent shooting and were even on the glass, two areas in which W&M has struggled this season.

The Tribe isn’t talented enough to run away with the game, but they’ve got enough weapons to pull off the upset, especially if their stable of 3-point shooters gets hot. Freshman guard Marcus Thornton, and his ability to penetrate, gave the Rams fits in the last meeting.

Fast fact: VCU (507) and William & Mary (475) rank first and second, respectively, in the CAA in 3-point attempts. Outside of these two teams, only James Madison (457) has tried more than 400.
