Record: 6-7 (0-1 CAA)
Games of note: Def. Cleveland St., Iona, Lost to Florida Atlantic (3-10), Rhode Island (2-12).
Guy you’ll want to heckle:
Mike Moore, Sr., G (21.4 ppg, 6.0 rpg)
The skinny: Hofstra is one of the most difficult teams in the CAA to figure out. Legitimate quality wins over Cleveland State and Iona have been offset by bad losses to Rhode Island (their worst team in a while), Florida Atlantic (par for the course) and Boston (they ain’t the Celtics). It’s hard to know which team you’re going to see.

Mike Moore, who was a nice sidekick for Charles Jenkins last season, is leading the CAA in scoring. Moore is shooting 46 percent (36-of-79) from three and is adept at getting to the line. His presence can keep the Pride in a bunch of games.

However, outside of Moore, Hofstra is a pedestrian offensive squad. The rest of the team has combined for 28 3-pointers and the Pride turn it over 15 times a game. When Hofstra gets major contributions from Nathanial Lester (13.2 ppg, 6.7 rpg) and David Imes (6.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg), the Pride is dangerous. When they don’t, they’re a .500 team.

Fast facts: Moore transferred to Hofstra from Fordham, the current home of former Pride Coach Tom Pecora… Hofstra ranks second in the CAA in 3-point percentage (.379). Moore is shooting .456 from there, while the rest of the team is shooting .311… The Rams lead this series 13-5 and have won six in a row against the Pride. Hofstra’s last win over VCU came on Jan. 31, 2007 in Hempstead (79-68). It snapped a 10-game VCU win streak that season.
